Life as a medical student

I have officially started my fourth year of medical school. Well, at least I am celebrating the third month anniversary of starting my fourth year of medical school! Along with that, I have discovered that fourth year comes with its own set of excitement, challenges and busyness. I find I have more free time (I haven't had to take call since April!). I also find I have more administrative work to keep up with (aka...residency applications...). So far this year I have found my passion for general surgery has grown and I am excited to say that I have officially sent out applications to general surgery residencies. I also spent a month in Zimbabwe doing volunteer work at a small hospital two hours away from the capital city of Harare. Since coming back, I have finally had more time to get my camera out and let my creative side out which has been so relaxing! A lot has happened since my last blog post so here is the brief overview: we moved to Fargo for my last year of clinical rotations (and are loving the foodie scene!), our adorable dog, Ahava, turned one and is so fun to be around, I took (and passed!!) USMLE Step 2 CK and CS, went to Zimbabwe for a month, went on a road trip to Connecticut and rotated through pediatric surgery, plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery. Phew! It has been a great start and now I am looking forward to a few photography projects in the coming weeks- so nice to be able to have more time to let my creative side out before I start residency next year!
Last weekend, some dear friends of ours from Minot came and visited us in Fargo on our way to picking up their adorable new golden doodle puppy, Hoff. We had a blast hanging out with them and watching their dog Messi while they traveled the rest of the way to Minnesota to pick up the new puppy. Messi and Ahava have been best friends since our friends were kind enough to watch Ahava when she was only a few months old. I loved being able to take pictures of our weekend adventures and of their adorable new puppy! Here's to many more adventures!
